Goolawah, a low-cost land sharing co-operative is located on 1640 acres (664 ha) of land about 15 km South of Crescent Head, 20 km North of Port Macquarie, NSW.
The township of Kempsey is about 30 km away via dirt and bitumen road, Maria River Road. There are opportunities for work in Port Macquarie and Kempsey.
The Goolawah Low-Cost Land Sharing Co-operative was registered in 1999 with the NSW Office of Fair Trading.
About 200 acres of Goolawah Co-op is cleared farmland, where the sites for 80 Co-op members were created. The remaining 1,400 acres are wetlands or natural bushland. Goolawah is adjacent to Limeburners Nature Reserve.
Roads internal to the Co-op have been created over the last years and are very well maintained. The project is nearly completed with tireless support of many members.
Each shareholder (member) is allocated 1.2 acres of land for their personal use.
The Development Application (DA) with the Kempsey Shire Council is expected to be presented to council in the second term of 2010. When the DA is through, Building Applications of individual members can be put before the Council (KSC).
The Co-op receives a non-refundable joining fee by a new member.
